Model Method - Questions and Answers
Question posted by Rohail from country unknown:A man leaves $12,800 for his three children, A,B and C in the ratio 4:5:7. How much money does each child receive? Answer:
Step 1: Draw 4 boxes to represent the money A receives, 5 boxes to represent the money B receives and 7 boxes to represent the money C receives.

Step 2: Draw a bracket to the right to represent the total amount of money the 3 children receives in total and label it "$12,800".

From the model,4 units + 5 units + 7 units ----------> $12800 16 units ----------> $12800 / 16 units = $800 4 units ----------> 4 units x $800 = $3200 5 units ----------> 5 units x $800 = $4000 7 units ----------> 7 units x $800 = $5600 Therefore, A receives $3200, B receives $4000, C receives $5600.
